DO’s & DONT’S:
You want to make sure that you are properly prepped for a spray tan in order to prolong the wear of the tan as well as making sure that its smooth and flawless.
Here are a couple tips on what you should consider before getting a spray tan:
- Prior to a spray tan:
(Night before or day of)
-Shower off any perfumes, lotions, oils, deodorants
-Exfoliate body & face *use a loofah, sugar scrub, exfoliating mit (these are my favorite)* https://www.amazon.com/Shower-Exfoliating-Gloves-Massage-Scrubber/dp/B00HX0MX3M/ref=br_lf_m_x33u2ydodx9fap4_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&s=beauty or http://www.ulta.com/buffing-body-exfoliating-mitt?productId=xlsImpprod14211083&sku=2306107&CPMID=CSBING&CAWELAID=330000200000632295&catargetid=330000200000867179&CADEVICE=c
-After your shower its important to not apply any lotions or perfumes or deodorants, this can cause your spray tan to develop wrong, or splotchy. However, it is okay to apply facial moisturizer, & an unscented cream to areas where you are excessively dry, such as: hands, feet, elbows, etc.
-When arriving to a spray tanning appointment keep in mind you wont want your clothing to be too tight or rub off your tan as it is drying. I recommend loose clothing such as a sweatpants, loose fitting t-shirt & flip flops.
- After care of a spray tan:
-You will need to let your tan develop. With my solution I recommend to wait 8 hours. Generally I just say to sleep in it and wash it off in the morning, the longer you leave your tan on the deeper the tan will get. However, once you’ve reached the 8 hours, it wont continue to deepen, so leaving it on all day or night will cause no harm.
-For your first shower, you will see the color guard coming off of you. Your tan will remain, its just the guided color washing off. For this first shower I don’t recommend using any form of soap. Its essentially just stripping your skin of the tan you just got. So just rinse your body off. Wash your face, & continue with your regular shower.
-Shaving immediately after a spray tan is just taking off that first layer of dead skin all over again, which is also your spray tan. Hold off on shaving your legs for as long as you can.
-Using moisturizing body washes will keep your skin hydrated, therefore keeping your tan on longer. Anything that’s heavily scented will also strip the tan off. (Bath & Body Works body wash)
-Once you have finished your shower, *pat* your skin dry.
-As soon as you can, apply a rich body cream. Again something that isn’t filled with fragrance. Apply this all over to ensure your skin stays hydrated. http://www.target.com/p/palmer-s-174-cocoa-butter-formula-174-moisturizing-body-lotion-8-5-oz/-/A-13528975 or http://www.sephora.com/ultra-repair-cream-intense-hydration-P248407?skuId=1217744&icid2=products grid:p248407
-When using your perfume, try to spray it onto your clothes so that the alcohol isn’t hitting your skin, in turn eating away at your spray tan.
With proper care & a good solution, your tan should last you 5-8 days.
